APPENTICESHIP

APPRENTICESHIP:

Jesus came to make a heavenly life accessible to all who would believe Him. The good news is not only heaven when we die, but the availability of heaven now.
See Mark 1:14-15 NIV

Jesus’ call to His earliest disciples is the same to us today: follow me. The word ‘disciple’ means to be a student. Apprenticeship to Jesus is learning to live our life the way Jesus would live it if He were us.

The purpose of Jesus’ life and teaching was not to impart information, rather to make significant change in the lives of those who begin to trust Him.
See Matthew 7:24-27 NIV

Salvation is through the grace of Jesus to do for us what we could/would not do on our own. Grace is more than forgiveness. It is the power extended to us to live within the ways of God’s eternal kingdom. As apprentices to Jesus, we rely on grace to see the transformation of our will to Christ’s.
See Romans 8:29 NIV and Philippians 1:6 NIV

While salvation is an act of grace, our job is to participate in surrendering our will for His and cooperate in a training regimen.
See 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NIV

A life of an apprentice to Jesus is one that is both dependent on grace and intentionally taking up practices of Jesus that will enable us to do what we currently cannot do. Some have called these spiritual disciplines.

Covenant Partners are pursuing apprenticeship to Jesus in an intentional way at Crossroads. Wherever you are in your life with God, we would love to walk with you in a relational approach to accountability and growth.

Here are ways an Apprentice to Jesus may choose to focus on for understanding:

Not to be rocked by external circumstances but increase in trust in the goodness and sovereignty of God.
See John 6:28-40 NIV

We become less attached to the temptation to define our value or worth on the externals, and learn to rest in our identity as Christ’s beloved.
See Colossians 2:6-12 NIV

A genuine belief that God’s ways are indeed better leads us to follow and obey.
See John 15:1-17 NIV

Our character is increasingly becoming more loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled.
See Galatians 5:22-26 NIV

A central aspect of Jesus’ ministry is to care for the forgotten and oppressed.
See Matthew 25:34-40 NIV

A growing desire to live more simply by giving away our money, time, talents, and other resources for the glory of God and to be used to further God’s mission.
See Matthew 6:25-34 NIV

As apprentices, we are invited to be his agents of mission in this world, proclaiming the good news of the availability of the Kingdom of God.
See Matthew 28:16-20 NIV
